Re: New Leadership
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 10:17 AMThank you, Rita, for helping us to get grounded in the fundamentals of tribal improv dance! It would have been very difficult to learn from videos and occasional workshops which is the prospect we were facing before you came to town. We enjoyed learning from you and working with you. Good luck with your job and family. I hope that you are feeling less stressed now without us to worry about! -

Thu, February 14, 2008 - 5:49 AMDitto what Sonya said. (I had already emailed to Rita privately some time back.) Seeing as how this all came to pass the first week of December, this gives you some idea of how busy Rita really is! And yep, hopefully some of the stress has been lessened by cutting back on some of the dance responsibilities. We are grateful for our time together and looking forward to the next evolution of Tribal Heart.

Re: New Leadership
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 5:01 AMRita was fantastic and I can only imagine trying to do all she has been doing. Heck I'm lucky when I can swing just workshops with the demands of time, money and kids. She helped get tribal rolling here and I think we all would like to thank her for it : )
Shawn and Sonya will do a fab job of continuing tribal here I know !!
I just realized what was edited and think it was appropriate to change it,
it's a public forum and you just never know who might be looking and for what purpose. -

Rita is only stepping down from directing us in Florida. Her troupe in Alabama is still active, AFAIK! -

Re: New Leadership
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 7:03 AMyeah, she is still active in dancing, just cutting back on things, especially on our side of the AL/FL border. Tribal Heart is back to being the original Florida dancers that gathered together with an interest in tribal dance before we even met up with Rita (minus Helen of course). Gypsy Chicks are still in place under Rita's direction, in AL. Rita has not retired from dancing or teaching, just directing Tribal Heart.

Re: New Leadership
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 12:26 PMOne of Rita's workshops in Pace was also my first bellydance class. I have to admit when I realized I was the only person in the beginner's class that day I was thinking "I've got Rita and Shawn all to myself....sweeeeeet!" Selfish on my part? You betcha! I wasn't about to complain I had the full attention of not one, but two, very good teachers. And now I have the lovely Carol Merrill to watch from the back of the room (or the front of the room as long as she doesn't call me the "M" name).

New Leadership, subject posted by Rita
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 4:39 AMPlease note: With apology to Rita, I found it necessary to repost her original subject with a teensy bit of editing I felt was needed. Other than the removal of 2 words, her posting is reproduced here in its entirety. I was uncomfortable leaving it in the original form and this is being done on behalf of Sonya and me. It was my own decision, however. Hope it does not lead to any confusion; sorry if it does.

Thank you to everyone who supported me in my role as director of Tribal Heart and the Gypsy Chicks over the past 4 and a half years. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach Tribal Style Belly Dance and direct, not only one, but two troupes in our area. However due to the increasing demands of my family and career as a dance/movement therapist I have resigned as director and passed the leadership of Tribal Heart on to Shawn and Sonya . Thank you to Shawn and Sonya for accepting this responsibility and for their dedication to Tribal Style Belly Dance and to me over the years. I look forward to seeing them continue to grow and excel as performers of Tribal Style Belly Dance.
SIncerely,
RIta Bates-Brown
