Did the word "Advanced" scare people off? Did Leap Day throw schedules into disarray?
After the initial shock of being the only three other than DJ who showed up, it was fun to have plenty of room to move and to get more personal attention from Joyce (not to mention more general yacking and smarting off opportunities!) My shoulders are so sore! Probably mostly from yoga, but all the arm waving during the ASWAT and Turkish Shimmy variation probably intensified it!
Joyce, you wild woman, did you find any hitchhikers for the return trip?

Re: Joyce's workshop part 3: Where was everybody?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 8:55 AMOk, I know I'm going to selfish saying this, but I felt the same way when I had my first lesson with Rita and Shawn at one of Rita's workshops. "Oh sweeeet! I have two teachers all to myself!" Only this time it was "I have Joyce, and Shawn, and Sonya, and CJ all to myself.....YES!.....sweeeeeeet...."
But I've heard there might just be cake at Joyce's next workshop! Yeah - don't come for the great workshop, just come for the cake. (please note the tongue in cheek - cake is good but not as good as Joyce.) -

Re: Joyce's workshop part 3: Where was everybody?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:38 AMI know, WHERE WERE all the other students? we covered some good stuff this weekend, and they are going to be so far behind next month, which means that we just get to drill some more!!! ASWAT ... ASWAT ... ASWAT ! And we will try it with the fade too!
Alas, there were no more hitchhikers to entertain me on the way home! had to drive home on my own, but did find some hot chocolate to keep me sugared up (a good substitute for cake!)
And yes, I am bringing a cake next time! -

Re: Joyce's workshop part 3: Where was everybody?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:56 AMWhoa! Joyce! You're not supposed to bring cake to your last workshop in the series! That's like bringing your own Guinness to the pub, or something along those lines. Ok, so maybe you can, but I'd feel better if you told me what kind of cake you wanted and let me bring it. (keep in mind I graduated dean's list from Purdue with a B.S. in Restaurant/Hotel/Institution Management and prior to moving to Florida I used to do catering for a living.) Yeah, those new ballet shoes may have been more slippery on CJ's floor than I thought they would be and the momentum may have made me just a little too spin happy at times, but I can bake!
And for those who didn't make it Saturday, it was a really, really, reeeeeaaally good workshop. Joyce raks! Cake forks up and all! -

Re: Joyce's workshop part 3: Where was everybody?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 12:20 PMMiss Monkey Herder,
If you would like to make and bring a cake, I would be most honored! As a bonus, I am sure it would be lots better than anything I would bring (which would be store bought since I don't cook!) - I offered to bring one to ensure there would be one for our last workshop! We can enjoy cake, and I also plan to go out for some dinner before heading home, and would invite anyone to join me!
Also, I want to get a group photo of us next time!

Would be awesome if we can cover some of what we missed next round a bit.
Thankfully I somewhat know some of it so I won't be totally lost.. -

Re: Joyce's workshop part 3: Where was everybody?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 10:35 AMDenise, hope your emergency is resolved. We spent most of our time going over the Arabic Shimmy with Arm Variation and Turn (ASWAT) and the Turkish Shimmy With Arm Variation. I believe the first is presented towards the end of vol. 7, but I haven't pulled it out to doublecheck yet.
We also quickly went over the Sunanda and reviewed the slow turns (Propeller, Corkscrew, and Reverse).
And I actually pulled out a cookbook yesterday and found a recipe for an intensely chocolately cake that I considered making for next time if no one else brought some. And I don't bake unless it's a holiday, but PMS was rearing it's ugly head! -

Yeah, chocolate cake is hard to resist! The more chocolate, the better!
